About Alyssa

Hi oboe friends! I am Alyssa McKeithen, owner of Double Reed Girl. I have been on the web since 2007. I am also a freelance musician and private lesson instructor, having performed and taught in Virginia, Florida, New York, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Wyoming and Puerto Rico. I am currently the Instructor of Oboe at Virginia Commonwealth University, where I also teach Music History classes. My freelance work includes performances with The Roanoke Symphony, The Richmond Symphony, The Sarasota Opera Orchestra, The Sarasota Orchestra, and TheatreZone in Naples, FL. For six years I was the Instructor of Double Reeds at Texas Lutheran University. My education includes a Bachelor of Music degree in Oboe Performance from the University of Florida, a Master of Music degree in Oboe Performance from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and doctoral work at the Eastman School of Music in Oboe Performance and Literature, where I also taught courses in the musicology area.
